CURRENT ACTING CHIEF ~ Barry Wothers

The Ormsby Fire Brigade, a division of the non-profit Summit Road Association, has been providing volunteer fire and emergency response to residents of the unincorporated Summit Road/Mount Madonna Road area since 1996.

This organization has received organizational support thru the South County Fire District, is financially supported thru the County Board of Supervisors, and is activated with direct pager capability thru the California Division of Forestry Headquarters in Morgan Hill.

The Brigade purchased their first vehicle, a Dodge Power Wagon, in April of 1997, and have since obtained a 2000 gallon Water Tender and a Crew Cab Wildland Firefighting Engine thru the Federal Excess Equipment Program.

Following is a summary of the equipment we currently have,
listed by its ID# and described by the type of vehicle and its capabilities.

Volunteers

Everyone in the response area is encouraged to participate, regardless in what capacity.

For actual Firefighting, 12 volunteers are covered by an insurance policy provided by our affiliation with CDF. Four hour Training Sessions are offered on a monthly basis, and for our reserve volunteers quarterly four hour Training Sessions are offered every third month.

The proposed Fire Station is at the site of the KSBW Broadcast Tower. KSBW is renting it to the Brigade for a nominal annual amount in order to help support our efforts.

One of the main reasons the Brigade selected this site is that this parcel is relatively central to the area they serve, not to mention that this is about as far into the community as the PG&E Power carries electricity.

The proposed Storage Building will house the Brigade's Fire Fighting Equipment
as well as all of the other fire fighting supplies.

The newly purchased 30' x 50' Butler Building, a metal rigid frame structure, will be erected with all volunteer labor, as soon as the permit process is complete. Over the next couple of months, we will be clearing the land and building our new station.

Local participation is needed and encouraged in any capacity. Your time and talent could be very helpful if you are willing and able to help us with this worthy project.

Preparation of the site for our new Fire Station gets underway. You can see the KSBW Tower in the background.

Our newest acquisition, the 1980 Crew Cab International Fire Engine we received
from the Forestry Service this past May is still in need of hoses, nozzles, etc.

Any and all donations contributed to help us 'dress' our newest fire fighter and/or complete
our Fire Station Project will be constructively applied and very much appreciated.

We hope to see you all at our New Fire Station for our Annual Meeting this coming spring.

Please consider helping not only your community but yourselves by getting involved in some way
to help us strengthen our Fire Brigade, creating a safer community for us all.

Having fun at our July 1996 Annual Fund Raiser!
